Abstract :
Many data communication applications such as file transfer require an error free transmission of data which cannot be guaranteed by using only a forward error correction technique. Therefore, automatic repeat request (ARQ) schemes must be applied. This paper presents two new ARQ schemes, named XOR selective repeat and Stutter-XOR. These schemes are both based on the use of the binary XOR operation (bitwise modulo-2 addition) to combine several data blocks into a single block, XOR selective repeat is suitable for point-to-multipoint communication over a broadcast link, whereas Stutter-XOR can be applied to point-to-point as well as point-to-multipoint communications. The aim of both strategies is to minimize the number of retransmitted blocks and hence to increase the throughput. This paper presents simulation results of XOR selective repeat and several variants of the Stutter-XOR in comparison with conventional ARQ schemes
