Abstract :
Basically the are two different types of converters for high power induction heating applications. On one side, current-fed inverters are normally used for applications with low ohmic inductor like hardening and tube welding. On the other hand voltage-fed inverters, in which the heating inductor is series compensated are preferred in applications with high ohmic inductor like melting or forging. In this paper a 50 kW/50 kHz IGBT series resonant inverter with ZVS behaviour is presented. Explanations are also given to prevent transistors failure in the case of a short-circuit of the heating inductor
