Abstract :
An enhanced systolic processor theory for digital signal processing is presented. It is based on class of vector processor engines (uniprocessor) as the processing element (PE), as well as on extensive simulations. The vector processor is an important innovation since it provides the means by which systolic array reconfiguration, synchronization, circuit switching complexity, and array dimensionality problems can be managed. The innovative vector processor is claimed to be a single-chip 50 MHz-class sum-of-product device capable of supporting both fixed-point and floating-point operations with user-defined wordwidths. The powerful processor is also ideally synergistic with the mesh-connected array concept in terms of computational bandwidth, reliability, interprocessor communications, and circuit-switching requirements
