Abstract :
Our paper deals with the precision of short base acoustic ranging systems. Such systems consist in locating (range and angle) a transponder or a pinger, with a chosen response, using (at least) two sensors (for each angular location). The precision of this locating is spoiled by the ambient noise and the self noise (ship or platform). Other limitations are due to the sound propagation constraints in natural environment: reverberation, multipaths, Döppler effect,... This paper describes the performances of three Given receiver architectures (with imposed structure). It mainly deals with the influence of the noise; but it also takes into account the other propagation limitations.
