Abstract :
A custom VLSI microcoded architecture for implementing the CCITT G.722 wideband audio coding standard is presented. By tailoring the architecture to the algorithm, an efficient realization is achieved that supports two full duplex channels on a single chip in approximately one-half the chip area of the best reported DSP (digital signal processing) processor based solutions. Simulation of the architecture and its microcode passes all of the G.722 test vectors
