Abstract :
The paper discusses optimization of quantization and bit-allocation in subband coders for speech signals. Time dependent subband power representation within coding frames is introduced and a "two-dimensional" bit-assignment method is employed. Furthermore, quantization of the sideinformation and its implications on the sub-band signal quantization are discussed.
