Abstract :
The authors present an optimal architectural solution for the implementation of a CCITT compliant ADPCM (adaptive differential pulse code modulation) transcoder for digital circuit multiplication equipment in satellite communications. The solution chosen is based on DSP (digital signal processing) processors with the aim of a flexible and compact implementation. A brief overview of the CCITT G.721 and G.761 recommendations is given, and the general characteristics of the DSP utilized for this design are outlined. A feasibility analysis of the ADPCM algorithm is presented, and the architectural solution for the transcoder implementation is given
