Abstract :
This paper explains the initial study on a nature-inspired cuckoo search (CS) algorithm to optimize symmetric linear array geometry with minimum sidelobe level (SLL) and/or nulls control. The CS algorithm is primarily based on the obligate brood parasitic behaviour of some cuckoo species in combination with the Lévy flight behaviour of some birds and fruit flies. The CS metaheuristic approach is straightforward and capable of solving general N-dimensional, linear and nonlinear optimization problems. In this paper, there will be imperative studies on five CS internal parameters towards solving the optimum linear array element locations with the goal of sidelobes suppression and/or interferers mitigation in certain directions. The optimal performances obtained by the CS algorithm will be also compared with the conventional linear array with λ/2 inter-element spacing.
