  • Abstract
The interactions of semiconductor nanoparticles, known as Q-dots, with normal and cancerous cell lines were studied in order to develop a model system for the interactions of nanoparticles with cells. The main advantage of Q-dots over traditional chemical dyes is a bright fluorescence with prolonged photo stability. The most efficient method for non-invasive introduction of Q-dots into cells was determined to be culturing cells on plates already coated with collagen and Q-dots. Among the parameters investigated were the difference between cell lines, types of Q-dots used, and Q-dot functionalization. Live/dead assay was also carried to assess the viability of cells after being in contact with Q-dots for different time periods.
