Abstract :
Measurement of temperatures with high spatial resolution in fluid is a challenging topic with many useful applications. This work presents a novel technique for extracting the temperature a few nanometers away from the surface with extremely high spatial resolution via the use of a covalently attached fluorescent dye, 5(6) carboxyfluorescein. The emission characteristics of the dye are highly temperature dependent, which allows the construction of a calibration curve that can be used to measure unknown temperatures directly at surfaces with spatial resolution only limited by the size of the employed fluorophores.
