Abstract
Wireless networks poses a major challenge for TCP, as packet loses due to channel interference and fading rather than network congestion. By utilizing a cross-layer mechanism to distinguish cause of packet loss, the mobile-host-centric transport protocol (MCP) can achieve higher performance than TCP Reno in WLAN. In this paper, we proposed a new cross-layer feedback mechanism and congestion control algorithm to improve the performance of MCP in multi-hop WLAN. The new cross-layer feedback mechanism records the cause of packet loss at intermediate nodes and forwards this information to the controller, and the congestion window is therefore adjusted appropriately by our congestion control algorithm. Our simulation results show that MCP+ achieves a higher throughput than TCP Reno and New Reno in various multi-hop environments.
