Abstract :
Monitoring partial discharge signals is an important means to evaluate the condition of power cable insulation. A 3D-model for an 110kV XLPE cable is constructed by Pro-Engineer program. Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method is used to simulate propagation characteristics of partial discharge (PD) signals in the cable. The simulation results indicate the propagation characteristics of PD signals on condition that testing distance, magnitude and pulse width of PD source are different.
