Abstract
A scheme for sensorless measurement of rotor speed and slip using rotor slot harmonics of a three phase squirrel cage induction motor is proposed in this paper. The scheme is implemented using an 80C196 microcontroller to develop an “electronic tachometer” and is based on a novel technique of extracting rotor slot harmonics from the various voltage ripples induced in the stator windings. The paper also discusses the various schemes to process the rotor slot harmonic signal to obtain rotor speed and slip information. Experimental results are presented
