Abstract
Manufacturing ownership of mature products and processes remains a priority at IBM´s semiconductor fabrication facility in Essex Junction, Vermont. The objective of ownership is to make the manufacturing organization as self-sufficient as possible. The program established to achieve this objective is known as engineering build-in (EBI). Through EBI, process control responsibilities are integrated into the manufacturing organization. The program provides the skills and training necessary to achieve the key elements of ownership, that is, maintaining process, tool, and product performance, while providing long-term improvements
