Abstract :
Internet services continue to show a remarkable sustained growth; this is complemented with an increased demand in mobility support over wide areas. The cellular systems have a widespread infrastructure that can be used to provide data services. In particular, CDPD (cellular digital packet data) is a technology that provides reliable data transmission over the AMPS (advanced mobile phone system) cellular network, without upsetting voice services. Among the demanded services there are file transfers, send/receive electronic mails (E-mail) and the WWW (hypertext browser service) that has turned out to be the most popular service. This paper presents an analysis methodology, under multiple channels, of the total capacity for CDPD use. Emphasis is paid to Internet services because this is the most stringent case, both in terms of transmission capacity and message delay. Results show that multiple channels improve the CDPD performance in terms of the quality of service and users supported
