Abstract :
Power system stabilizers (PSS) is introduced in the exciter loop of the generator to vary the reactive power demand of the real power system. In this paper, the operating performance of PSS is demonstrated on the practical Pondicherry utility system. The Recursive Least Square (RLS) algorithm based PID controller is used to tune the parameters of the PSS to achieve quicker settling time for the system parameters such as load angle, exciter voltage and speed deviation. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with the conventional PID controller based PSS. The obtained simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
