  • Abstract
    An ongoing trial of video on demand (VOD) technology between SaskTel, TRLabs, and Canarie is trying to prove the feasibility of delivering high quality video and sound to remote destinations on the Internet. The focus has been on delivering video at speeds in excess of that necessary for real time viewing. This “Hyper” real-time VOD delivers the entire video to its destination and allows the user full local control of its playback without further network intervention. A discussion of other VOD technologies is presented for comparison. These other technologies include Internet video streaming, cable pay-per-view, non-real-time video downloads, and VHS retail/rental establishments
