Abstract :
Single-phase induction motors (SPIMs) are being increasingly used in applications with variable speed requirement. A reliable motor speed signal is usually needed for speed control and advanced torque control in such applications. The use of a mechanical sensor for speed measurement is not a wise option because of its high cost relative to the motor price. In this paper a speed estimation method is proposed for SPIMs using the rotor voltage vector defined in the complex domain. The estimated speed signal is then used in a novel sensorless vector control SPIM drive. Extensive simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed control system
