Abstract :
An efficient numerical method is investigated and implemented to obtain the design characteristics of microstrip structures. This technique requires derivation of a mixed potential integral equation solution in terms of vector and scalar potentials of the dyadic Green´s function. The extraction of Green´s function through Sommerfeld integral equations is avoided by implementing instead the simplified expressions of the Green´s function. By avoiding the calculation of Sommerfeld integrals, the numerical procedure becomes very efficient. However, this may compromise the accuracy of the method. The final solution for the integral equation is acquired numerically by implementing the method of moments. Surface current can be extracted from the solution and will provide a starting point for analysis of microstrip structures. The reliability and efficiency of this approach is thoroughly examined and verified by comparing the solution with results obtained from an established microstrip CAD tool
