Abstract
In this contribution, the block-based hybrid coder TMN4 is compared to an object-based analysis-synthesis coder (OBASC) based on the source model of moving flexible 2D objects. An OBASC transmits motion, colour and shape parameters for each moving object, a block-based coder transmits motion and colour parameters for blocks. Besides this fundamental difference that OBASC allows the transmission of shape parameters of moving objects, other ideas from OBASC can be easily incorporated into a block-based coder without requiring the estimation of shape parameters of moving objects. In this contribution, a block-based coder based on the hybrid coder TMN4 is developed which takes features like coder control, selective transmission of color parameters, interpolation of displacement vector fields from OBASC. This new coder outperforms the block-based hybrid coder TMN4
