Abstract
This paper describes the control and the robust performances of a H∞ controller for noncolocated systems. The simple model chosen is a cantilever beam controlled by an active damping system. The H∞ controller based on the reduced order model for the cantilever beam is designed to satisfy specifications such as suppressing unstable vibration that is called spillover destabilization. The solution to the standard H∞ control problem is used to design the controller. The performances of the controller are verified by numerical simulations and experimental results
