Abstract :
This paper investigates the electromagnetic wave propagation properties in a transformer tank model with coil by experiment and finite difference time domain (FDTD) analysis. Especially, this paper deals with the effects of the windings and PD source on the EM wave propagation and frequency characteristics. As a result, it is found that the coil acts as a loop antenna. It is also indicated that the behavior as the loop antenna causes the frequency giving the best detection sensitivity of PD radiated electromagnetic waves to shift to the lower frequency.
