Abstract :
Data has always been the cornerstone of science and the basis of our understanding of the world. But with advances in our ability to collect, record and generate data the challenges of managing and deriving knowledge from these data have now taken center stage Science now relies on both the enormous quantities generated by large planned science missions as well as the small amounts produced by individual researchers. Explores the migration from data analysis to knowledge acquisitions. The knowledge generation life cycle is highly dynamic, driven by numerous factors which can be categorized based on four different perspectives - Data, Technology,End User and Policy. While some these factors overlap, in this article we describe three key driving factors from each of these perspectives, along with important community activities taking place to address some of these issues. In addition, the article summarizes some ESI TC activities from the past year and planned for the future.
