Abstract :
This paper demonstrates the fabrication of a prototype device of a low power silicon-polymer hybrid optical modulator based on photoinduced absorption of VOPc. The modulated signals can be obtained by an intensity-modulated laser diode. The modulation depth is increased by ~10 times compared with the conventional silicon waveguide modulator in which photoexcited free carriers are employed. In this device, ultrafast modulation speed can be expected and it is suitable for on-chip all photonic interconnections.
