Abstract
Combining the service management, element/node management, and distributed problem-solving technologies, a two-layer ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) network management system is built and reported on. We discuss the ATM management strategy from two different views/layers (the network layer and the element layer). To achieve real-time requirements, we import a distributed problem-solving methodology for communicating between the two layers. The virtual reality approach is also proposed to be used
