Abstract
Develops an approach to solve a scheduling problem in a flexible manufacturing system (FMS). This is a highly automated system composed of several identical machining centers. Due to the large variety of parts manufactured in the system, tool magazines of the machining centers cannot hold at the same time all the tools necessary. Therefore, a robot is used to load tools into a magazine or unload tools from it. Parts are handled by an AGV between the input station, output station and the machining centers. Therefore, three types of resources have to be coordinated in order to maximize the throughput or to minimize the makespan in terms of scheduling theory
