Abstract
Water desalination is one of the most effective measures to alleviate the worldwide water supply stress. This work developed a facile nanofluidic device for small-scale water desalination, by Nafion-induced ion concentration polarization. The device is able to continuously desalt seawater (~100 mM) to fresh water with ion concentration of less than 10 mM by applying a voltage of >8 v, and as low as 0.1 mM at 32 v.
