  • Abstract
We successfully demonstrate the effectiveness of a realisation technique for post-detection filters with applications in multigigabit transmission systems. Fibre chromatic dispersion is taken into account and is used to estimate the received pulse shape. The results show that for an NRZ transmitted pulse of 100 ps duration, the received pulses have full width half maximum (FWHM) of 109 ps and 214 ps for fibre lengths equalling 80 km and 180 km respectively at 1.55 μm. We describe a complete realisation technique which takes the time domain specification of the received pulse shape and yields a filter matched to it. For operation at data rates up to 10 Gbit/s the filter structure was implemented on a microstrip
