Abstract :
The current evolution of e-commerce is driven by a large variety of applications accessed by means of different devices. A missing piece in the game still is a generally accepted payment system that can meet the requirements of all the new and upcoming scenarios. The article discusses whether this is feasible at all. Instead, the existing systems, that proved well for certain applications, could be unified by an adaptation layer. The core requirements of such an adaptation layer, functional as well as qualitative, can well be met by typical intelligent network systems. They could also bring additional value added features into such an e-commerce enabling service that are not limited to pure payment
