Abstract :
In the application of hard handoff technology, communication interrupt rate greatly increases when the mobile station discontinues communication with the old base station prior to the connection with the new one. Based on the received signal strength criterion, a simulation model of the soft handoff of the CDMA system is established to simulate the soft handoff between two cells. According to the simulation results, soft handoff is more reliable than the hard handoff. The use of soft handoff technology reduces the probability of disconnected calls in the system, improves the quality of communication. However, the soft handoff technology also increases the system´s complexity as well as the overhand of the channel.
