Abstract :
This paper presents the use of the Taguchi method in optimizing an surface-mounted permanent magnet (SPM) motor for use as a fan motor in air-conditioners. In this application, the SPM motor is designed to provide high efficiency and low cogging torque for the requirement of high EER and low noise operation. The Taguchi optimization method was used and the finite element analysis (FEA) was conducted to compute the performance of the motor design generated by the Taguchi design of experiments.
