Abstract :
Intelligent interaction between a human user and the machine, as one the outcomes of the huge progress in the field of human-computer interaction, is leading to the development of adaptive user interfaces making communication decisions dynamically, at run-time. This goes along with simultaneous efforts relating to the inclusion of a higher level of intelligence in computer-supported learning and teaching systems, what has already led to the development of emulators of human tutors - intelligent tutoring systems, as well as their generators - authoring shells. Our research is focussed on adaptive interfaces for intelligent computerized educational systems like authoring shells. Issues concerning requirements, design, implementation as well as improvement of the automatic adaptation mechanism embedded in an authoring shell interface are elaborated in this paper.
