Abstract :
We investigate the peformance of BCH (63,39,4) code, BCH (127,78,7) code and BCH (127,64,10) code with different interleaving degree applied to the VHF mobile channel which was modelled by Swarts and Ferreira (1994) in Johannesburg, South Africa when the subcarrier modulations are FSK at 300 bits/s, DPSK at 1200 bits/s, QPSK at 2400 bits/s and 8PSK at 4800 bits/s respectively, at two different vehicle speeds of 40 km/h and 100 km/h and in two different communication environments-a city environment and a freeway environment. Some important and significant conclusions for the design of the error control systems in the VHF digital mobile fading channel have been obtained
