Abstract :
High speed programmable signal processors are special purpose digital computers with throughputs 50 to 100 times faster than minicomputers. Their architectures are characterized by specialized subunits, memories and arithmetic elements to enable them to perform signal processing algorithms in real time. Signal processors are often required to independently perform complex processing modes. This paper describes the use of a virtual CPU to interpret a control language to greatly simplify the programming of signal processing control programs. The basic structure of this language and its successful implementation for several applications will be described.
