Abstract
One of the important issues in the context of distributed systems is recovery from failures. Distributed systems require having crystal clear yet proficient techniques to achieve this. Checkpoint is defined as a place in a program where normal working of system is interrupted to maintain the status information. Mobile ad hoc networks often suffer from failures due to battery shortage, bandwidth issues, those are transitory and independent in nature. Therefore, checkpointing is a major confront in such dynamic environment. The paper presents a comprehensive study of checkpointing algorithms along with an analysis of their performance characteristics. Further, we propose a trust-value based uncoordinated checkpointing algorithm which improves the overall checkpointing overhead.
