Abstract :
Through the installation of fiber to residential customers in the community of Heathrow, Florida, Southern Bell, Northern Telecom, and BNR are working to evolve fiber loop technology for large-scale deployment. The system at Heathrow delivers POTS (plain old telephone system), ISDN (integrated services digital network), and video transport for CATV (cable television). POTS was cut into service in June 1988, followed by ISDN in November 1988, and video in June 1989. It is noted that the design and operation of the system have influenced not only the technology and architecture of future systems but also provisioning methods, splicing techniques, and installation of the fiber-optic-network interface at the customer´s premises
