  • Abstract
Virtual furniture layout is quite useful to facilitate the indoor decoration and can be categorized as an application of augmented reality (AR). It involves in the mixture of virtual objects into real world as well as the user interaction with virtual world. As a result, the unity between the virtual and real scenes is an important issue for such an application. Traditional AR systems aim to reduce their difference in terms of the photorealism, which is quite difficult for real-time systems. Instead, this paper improves the unity by taking advantage of the non-photorealism. First of all, virtual objects are rendered into the real scene using the simple illumination model. Then, a fast and efficient video stylization technique is employed to produce cartoon-like effect. We view the real video frames and the 3D image as a whole, avoiding the extraction of silhouette of 3D objects. Moreover, the line rendering and soft luminance quantization are guaranteed to preserve the temporal coherence. Lastly, the experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach.
