Abstract :
Results are now emerging from a research program concerned with the application of dynamic models, simulation and optimization methods to the control and management of steelworks energy networks. In attempting what is thought to be the first serious assessment of the dynamic behaviour of the networks we have examined a number of simple but basic questions. Of potential interest are ´off-line´ problems such as network planning and scheduling, and ´on-line´ problems such as plant rescheduling procedures and the design of operator aids. In both these areas there seems to be value in applying simulation and optimization techniques.
