Abstract :
REVGEN computes samples of reverberation from samples of the transmitted ping and a model of the ocean. If the ping and return are each time- and bandwidth-limited, they can be encoded by N and M samples, respectively (where N and M are related to their time-bandwidth products). Then the ocean can be described by an M × N matrix. This matrix is computed for a point-scatterer model. Some simplifications are made which allow a convenient physical interpretation of a related matrix. REVGEN is being developed to perform the signal processing and portions of the ocean modeling tasks in real time.
