Abstract :
The authors are investigating a number of promising information technology methods to test the hypothesis that these techniques may improve patient care by enhancing the existing medical model and assist medical decision-making. These efforts represent a new addition to the conventional operational model of interaction between the patient and the physician. The goal is to improve this interaction by the incorporation of intelligent monitoring components which provide a clinical decision support system for use in various medical settings, from the fast-paced critical care unit, to the slower-pace medical problems such as rheumatoid arthritis
