Abstract
Electric utilities minimize their operating expenses by allocating load to those units having the lowest operating cost. This economic dispatch problem utilizes a curve for each generating unit relating operating cost to power output. Various off-normol operational modes within the plant can cause the available cost curves for a given unit to be significantly in error. This paper presents test data quantifying these cost curve errors and suggests possible solutions to the situation.
