Abstract :
This paper describes a new multiple access technique that allows the transport of multimedia information across global personal communication systems (PCS). The role of the multiple access protocol in multimedia PCS is to provide efficient and timely access to multirate broadband applications involving integrated voice, video and data services. A practical multiple access scheme called “enhanced reserved polling” is capable of accommodating the diverse mixture of delay classes and message priorities associated with multimedia traffic. To gain some insight into its performance, the proposed protocol is analyzed and simulated. The unique ability of the protocol to enhance the bandwidth sharing among different cells in the network is also demonstrated
