Abstract
An excitation function for LPC synthesis is constructed from a best estimate of the glottal volume velocity waveform. By proper smoothing, inverse filtering, and truncation, the phase characteristics of the glottal wave are preserved, while the basic requirement of an essentially flat spectrum is also satisfied. The new function is suggested as an excitation for reducing the buzzy quality often perceived in the synthesis of low F0 speech.
