Abstract :
Work is reported on the classification of A-scan data from a sonar system, in which parameters describing the structure of objects have been measured and used as features in the classification. Non-parametric p.d.f. estimators have been used, and the results compared with those of human classification on the same data. The progress of continuing work using a B-scan format and on-line processing of data is also reported.
