Abstract :
Summary form only given. Presents a broad cross section of participating engineers from organizations involved in the coordination, design, and operation of radio systems. Present-day digital switching and multiplex techniques have shifted the emphasis from analog radio and metallic cable to digital radio and fiber-optic cable. The radio industry was once dominated by long-haul designs in 4- and 6-GHz common-carrier bands. Now manufacturers are taking advantage of new devices operating above 10 GHz to produce short-haul radios for local interconnect and bypass systems. The advent of cellular radio has revolutionized mobile and portable communications to produce increased demands on the VHF/UHF spectrum
