Abstract
The Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) is targeted to provide multimedia services which are differentiated in four types: conversational, streaming, interactive and background. In order to guarantee an appropriate Quality of Service (QoS) some algorithms of Radio Resource Management RMM have been created, which are responsible of the efficient use of the air interface. The RRM´s algorithms family can be divided into: transfer control, admission control, payload or congestion control, functionalities of planning of packets and control of power and handover. This paper deals with the last two algorithms verifying his behavior and influence in a UMTS network with traffic background through simulation of different scenarios in OPNET.
