Abstract
A prototype software evolution expert system (SEES) has been implemented on top of the tool builder´s kit (TBK), a productive environment for the generation of integrated computer-aided software engineering (CASE) tools. This approach is based on modeling the main objects in any view of the software system in a frame-based representation, and on making explicit the related dependences in meta knowledge bases. The approach suggested by N. Wilde and B. Nejmeh (1987) has been extended to several classes of dependencies from programming to domain view dependencies. The capabilities of SEES to support the understanding and the evolution of a software system are given. The role of SEES research and development is described, as is a prototype implementation based on these ideas
