Abstract
A new method is described in this paper for artificial pollution testing of nonceramic insulators. The pollution was repeated a number of times at three different equivalent salt deposit density (ESDD) levels to check for repeatability. Flashover tests were done using the “withstand” voltage method. The leakage current at both low voltage and high voltage were recorded. High voltage resistance was calculated which was found to be a better predictor of flashover voltage. The results of flashover tests were compared to the slurry method. The flashover voltages obtained by the two methods were found to be similar
