Abstract
The paper briefly examines the causes of stress in the lives of many employees today and the role of information as a contributory factor. It begins by assessing the importance of information and the increasing role it has come to play in our economic life. It traces the change in the status of information workers that has followed important developments in science and technology. The concept of stress at work is discussed and the notion of information overload as a significant factor is examined. The final part of the paper suggests reasons why information overload may be a symptom of other employee and organisational problems that need to be resolved if employees are to remain effective at work
