Abstract
Networks of local area networks (LANs) interconnected by bridges are modeled. A formulation for optimally designing LAN-LAN networks for survivability in the event of any one link (bridge or connecting communication line) failure is provided. The resulting mixed integer program is solved using a heuristic technique. Preliminary results for a four-LAN case are provided to highlight the problem and the heuristic technique
